Onlive cloud based gaming: Full review

I finally have had the chance to put the cloud based gaming service, Onlive, through its paces.  I must say that the results are very impressive, but still, only time will tell.  The market can be quite finicky with new technologies like this.
Initial Thoughts

On the morning of the 17th I woke up like a kid on Christmas.  I ran to the computer, went to onlive.com and … received a message that accounts were being activated slowly and I should be able to download it soon.  Fast forward to the next day and I was able …

Adobe Reader released for Android

It is hard, sometimes, to realize that Adobe makes any product other than Flash, but yesterday they launched Adobe Reader for the Android platform.  This ended up replacing a different app for me though.  I had been using Aldiko for my ebook reading and it worked excellent, but had one major problem.  All of the ebooks I have are in .pdf format and Aldiko only reads epub. Needless to say, I have been converting all of my pdf files to epub, with less then steller results.
As soon as I downloaded …

Fennec Alpha available for Android

Mozilla has been working hard on the mobile version of Firefox for Android, code-named Fennec.  There have already been several reviews of it here, here, and here, so I won’t be going into it.  I just wanted to take this time out to talk about my concern over other browsers entering the Android market.
I love my Droid, I really do, and in general I like all of my Google products, but the browser in Android really rubs me the wrong way. It amazes me that the same company that produced …

Wapple – Mobile blogging at its finest

Before you read this article go get your cell phone or any other mobile Internet device.  Got it?  Good, now navigate to http://techhype.net.  See that awesome mobile interface?  That is courtesy of the fine folks over at Wapple (http://wapple.net/).
About a week or go I decided it was time to start working on Tech Hype’s mobile Internet presence and tried multiple plug-ins to handle the heavy lifting.  Most of  the plug-ins I tried did an excellent job of doing what they were meant to do, but they seemed to lose the …

Moto Droid users finally get Android 2.1 … Take 3

Yesterday Verizon started sending over the air updates to a select few people for the Droid.  Mass updates should start showing up today, but the update will not let you apply it unless you have more than 40 percent battery power.
I am not holding my breath on this, but if it does happen, expect a full review of all the 2.1 goodies that should be included.

Hackers don’t even attempt to crack Chrome

This year the Pwn2own hacker competition is being held in Vancouver.  They have alloted $40,000 for their web browser section with each browser worth $10,000.  The four browsers will be Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and Safari.  Now, I think you could pretty much guess how they would fair, but the big shocker was Chrome.  The other browsers were hacked in the first day, but Chrome wasn’t even attempted.
Day two is now over and, still, no one has attempted to topple Chrome.  I am sure Google is just tickle pink right now.
Sandboxing …

How does your twitter stack up?

Twitter Grader (twitter.grader.com) is a pretty slick little site that runs an algorithm over your twitter account and scores you on the “health” of your account.  The website goes into detail about what is acctually taken into consideration to produce you score.
Algorithm Factors
1.  Number of Followers: More followers leads to a higher Twitter Grade (all other things being equal).  Yes, I agree that it’s easy to game this number, but we are looking at measuring reach and I did say all other things being equal.
2.  Power of Followers: If you have people …

Windows is back in the game…

Microsoft has unveiled plans for its new mobile operating system.  They have scrapped all of the plans they had originally for WinMo 7 and started from scratch.  Well, actually, it looks like they tapped the Zune team for the aesthetics at least.  The phone has a radically different flow than other “icons on a desktop” style phones we have been seeing.
The concepts of this phone tears at a part of me that I really wish it wouldn’t.  I am torn between Google and Microsoft (no Apple until they give up …

Swype for Android put through its paces

I was recently granted access to the Swype beta for Android.  The first thing I noticed is that the keyboard looks a lot nicer and more comfortable then the stock 2.0 Droid keyboard.  They keys are slightly larger and have a slick looking 3d effect to them.  They are slightly larger and more spaced out, too.  Even without the swype feature I would still install this for the excellent replacement keyboard.
I have been trying to force my brain to get used to the swyping technique, but I am so brainwashed …

Log into your PC with your face!

No, that doesn’t mean that you will have a large glass plate that you have to swipe your face across.  KeyLemon created an app that allows your web cam to simply log you in when you are in front of your computer.  It will log you into windows, social media sites, pretty much anything that requires a log in.  Since it is simply inputting your password for you, I see it as more of a convenience feature.  If you wife steals your password to that site, well, your still SoL, …
