So long and thanks for all the iPads…

Now that Android is shoving over 200,000 android devices out per day and it has become painfully obvious that the iPhone is destined to become a niche device, similar to what happened to their desktop PCs in the ’80s, history is repeating itself.
Today marks the inauguration of the first announcement of a serious android competitor to the iPad.  Today, Samsung announced the Galaxy Tab and, man, does it look sweet.  Now, don’t get me wrong, the iPad is the type of device I have been waiting years for, but Apple’s militant ability to alienate themselves amongst all of the tech world …

Fennec Alpha available for Android

Mozilla has been working hard on the mobile version of Firefox for Android, code-named Fennec.  There have already been several reviews of it here, here, and here, so I won’t be going into it.  I just wanted to take this time out to talk about my concern over other browsers entering the Android market.
I love my Droid, I really do, and in general I like all of my Google products, but the browser in Android really rubs me the wrong way. It amazes me that the same company that produced …

iPhone 4.0 being announced today at 10am PT!

Today the folks over at Cupertino are going to show off a few version of the iPhone OS.  Rumors have been swirling around that this will not be a incremental update like the 3G to the 3GS was.  This should hopefully introduce some form of multitasking, among other things.  Stay tuned to techhype.net today because we will be trying to live blog the event.
So far Apple has done an excellent job at not allowing the OS to fragment, but as more devices are added to their stable I wonder if …

iPad: The day after…

I had the opportunity to runt he iPad through its paces this weekend and it is stunning.  I am sure by this point you have read a ton of reviews on this device so I will spare you the revamp of those ideas here and I will simply offer my first impressions.
The first thing I noticed when I picked it up was the weight.  At first I was taken back by how heavy it seemed.   I really thought it would be lighter, but once I dug into the experience …

Moto Droid users finally get Android 2.1 … Take 3

Yesterday Verizon started sending over the air updates to a select few people for the Droid.  Mass updates should start showing up today, but the update will not let you apply it unless you have more than 40 percent battery power.
I am not holding my breath on this, but if it does happen, expect a full review of all the 2.1 goodies that should be included.

Rumor: CDMA + iPhone = Droid + eBay

The Wall Street Journal posted a few articles about the possibility of a CDMA flavor of iPhone.  This makes me smile like the Cheshire cat on ‘shrooms.  I currently live near VA Beach and AT&T service is atrocious … or so I am told.  It is so bad that all you really ever hear are the horror stories about people that used to have the service.  This area is like living in a post-apocalyptic world after the Cellular wars have faded.  Needless to say Verizon won.
Back to reality, I currently …

htc Evo … yeah, they just did that!!!

Yes, I did have to make the picture that large.  I can not express how big this phone really is.  Don’t get my wrong, I love my Droid, but I think this truly is the first “iPhone Killer” that can live up to the name.  I breaks my heart that this phone is only available on Sprint.  Hopefully Verizen will drive a few truckloads of money over to HTC and get this on VZW.
This phone is based off of the lightning fast Snapdragon QSD8650 1GHz processor (a slightly upgraded version …

Windows is back in the game…

Microsoft has unveiled plans for its new mobile operating system.  They have scrapped all of the plans they had originally for WinMo 7 and started from scratch.  Well, actually, it looks like they tapped the Zune team for the aesthetics at least.  The phone has a radically different flow than other “icons on a desktop” style phones we have been seeing.
The concepts of this phone tears at a part of me that I really wish it wouldn’t.  I am torn between Google and Microsoft (no Apple until they give up …

The first real Android contender to the iPad

News has begun to creep out over the net about a product called the WePad.  This little tablet sports an 11.6 inch display (1366×768) with a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor at its core.  It has a webcam, a flash card reader, integrated WWAN modem, GMA3150 graphics and two USB ports (here’s to hoping for USB 3.0).  The thing that I think will really set this device out front of the competition is how well it implements the Android operating system.  If the WePad can deliver a speedy and responsive …

Final Fantasy coming to iPhone/iPod/iPad

Square Enix released information regarding two titles coming to the iPlatforms.  Final Fantasy 1 and Final Fantasy 2.  Even though their official website for the products is still pretty weak, and they mention nothing about an American product, its pretty much a no brainer that one will come out.  There are, however, some screen-shots and a quick video available and it looks amazing.

It makes me wonder how much market penetration Android will need to achieve before it starts to get attention like this.  Blizzard just launched it Mobile …
