So long and thanks for all the iPads…

Now that Android is shoving over 200,000 android devices out per day and it has become painfully obvious that the iPhone is destined to become a niche device, similar to what happened to their desktop PCs in the ’80s, history is repeating itself.
Today marks the inauguration of the first announcement of a serious android competitor to the iPad.  Today, Samsung announced the Galaxy Tab and, man, does it look sweet.  Now, don’t get me wrong, the iPad is the type of device I have been waiting years for, but Apple’s militant ability to alienate themselves amongst all of the tech world …

Adobe Reader released for Android

It is hard, sometimes, to realize that Adobe makes any product other than Flash, but yesterday they launched Adobe Reader for the Android platform.  This ended up replacing a different app for me though.  I had been using Aldiko for my ebook reading and it worked excellent, but had one major problem.  All of the ebooks I have are in .pdf format and Aldiko only reads epub. Needless to say, I have been converting all of my pdf files to epub, with less then steller results.
As soon as I downloaded …

Fennec Alpha available for Android

Mozilla has been working hard on the mobile version of Firefox for Android, code-named Fennec.  There have already been several reviews of it here, here, and here, so I won’t be going into it.  I just wanted to take this time out to talk about my concern over other browsers entering the Android market.
I love my Droid, I really do, and in general I like all of my Google products, but the browser in Android really rubs me the wrong way. It amazes me that the same company that produced …

Moto Droid users finally get Android 2.1 … Take 3

Yesterday Verizon started sending over the air updates to a select few people for the Droid.  Mass updates should start showing up today, but the update will not let you apply it unless you have more than 40 percent battery power.
I am not holding my breath on this, but if it does happen, expect a full review of all the 2.1 goodies that should be included.

htc Evo … yeah, they just did that!!!

Yes, I did have to make the picture that large.  I can not express how big this phone really is.  Don’t get my wrong, I love my Droid, but I think this truly is the first “iPhone Killer” that can live up to the name.  I breaks my heart that this phone is only available on Sprint.  Hopefully Verizen will drive a few truckloads of money over to HTC and get this on VZW.
This phone is based off of the lightning fast Snapdragon QSD8650 1GHz processor (a slightly upgraded version …

Swype for Android put through its paces

I was recently granted access to the Swype beta for Android.  The first thing I noticed is that the keyboard looks a lot nicer and more comfortable then the stock 2.0 Droid keyboard.  They keys are slightly larger and have a slick looking 3d effect to them.  They are slightly larger and more spaced out, too.  Even without the swype feature I would still install this for the excellent replacement keyboard.
I have been trying to force my brain to get used to the swyping technique, but I am so brainwashed …

The first real Android contender to the iPad

News has begun to creep out over the net about a product called the WePad.  This little tablet sports an 11.6 inch display (1366×768) with a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor at its core.  It has a webcam, a flash card reader, integrated WWAN modem, GMA3150 graphics and two USB ports (here’s to hoping for USB 3.0).  The thing that I think will really set this device out front of the competition is how well it implements the Android operating system.  If the WePad can deliver a speedy and responsive …

Blizzard releases its Mobile Authenticator for Android

Blizzard released its Mobile Authenticator yesterday for the Android platform.  I installed the program on my Droid and it works great.  I did notice when I was setting it up that I received a warning that if your phone is rooted (which mine isn’t) that it could compromise the security of the app.
This makes me wonder if the Mobile Armory is down the road.  While the WoW Droid Amory is a great alternative, the actual Blizzard app would make a better option.
Below you will find the QR Code for the …

Moto updating Droid to 2.1 “this week”

Motorola has stated on their Facebook page that they would be deploying Android 2.1 to the device “this week”.  I, for one, am ecstatic about this and it makes me feel better about hopping on the Droid bandwagon mere months before the Nexus One came out. TechCrunch is reporting that this update should include multi-touch and Google Goggles (which has potential, but is still pretty weak).
For one reason or another, there is none of the “pretty” updates in the package.  There is no scrolling grid of apps or active wallpapers, …

QR Codes go mainstream

QR codes have been around in Japan since 1994, but have only been used here in the States a lot recently.  With the rise of the Google Android platform more and more people are using these 2 dimensional codes to link to webpages or applications in the Android Marketplace.  A quick scan with a phone can load all types of information into a phone with ease.  Recently the Weather Channel has used a code during a television broadcast to advertise their app in the Android Marketplace.  I can easily see a future …
