What’s the tallest structure in the world?

The Burj Khalifa in the United Arab Emirates stands as the world’s tallest building as of right now. The entire height of this amazing structure is 829 meters (including the antenna).

It was completed in 2010 and is a mixed-use skyscraper with offices, a hotel, and private residential units. Construction began in 2004, with the main external structure completed in 2009.

The Burj Khalifa was designed by Adrian Smith of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, who also designed the Willis Tower and One World Trade Center.” Hyder Consulting was chosen as the supervising engineer, while NORR Group Consultants International Limited was chosen to oversee the project’s architecture.

Where does the Shard stand as one of the tallest structures?

The Shard, also known as The Shard of Glass or Shard London Bridge, is the tallest building in the United Kingdom. Renzo Piano-designed it; its total height is just over 310 meters (305 main structure).

Because of its total height, the Shard is Europe’s fifth-tallest building. Construction began in 2009, and the facility officially opened for business in 2012.

Although very tall indeed, the Shard doesn’t rank among the top 20 tallest buildings in the world. But it is slightly taller than the famous Eiffel Tower, which stands at a total height of 300 meters.

What will be the tallest building in 2024?

To date, as of 2023, the Burj Khalifa will retain its title as the tallest building in the world. But there is another tall tower currently under construction that is set to dwarf it.

Called the Jeddah Tower, this incredible building is planned to reach around 1 km in height when it is completed. However, it is important to note that construction was stalled in 2018 due to geological issues with the construction site.

1. Jeddah Tower will dwarf Burj Khalifa once finished

As we have previously mentioned, Jeddah Tower is set to dwarf the Burj Khalifa once completed. Current estimates are for its completion in 2021, but the project is currently on hiatus for technical reasons.

2. Merdeka 118 was completed in June 2023

Merdeka 118, formerly known as PNB 118, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is a 678.9-meter-tall, 118-floor tower that finished construction on June 9, 2023. It is the second-tallest structure and the second-tallest building in the world, behind the Burj Khalifa.

3. Evergrande IFC 1 should be completed by 2025

The construction for Evergrande IFC1 in Hefei, China, started in 2016 but is currently on hold. The building’s design is inspired by bamboo and is estimated to be completed in 2025. It is planned to reach a final height of 518 meters and will consist of 112 floors in total. It was designed by Gensler.

4. The China International Silk Road Center will be completed by 2025

China International Silk Road Center in Xi’an, China started construction in 2019 and is estimated to be completed by 2025. The building’s height is estimated to reach a height of 498 m with 101 floors.

5. Work on the Wuhan Greenland Center has stalled

Wuhan Greenland Center is currently under construction in Wuhan, China. Work started in 2012 but has been stalled since 2016. When, if ever, it is completed, it will have a total height of 476 meters.
